God is going to send a famine, not of bread or of thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. No matter how much the people run to and fro to seek the Word of the Lord, they will not be able to find it. What a scary situation! Just think, people will be searching feverishly but to no avail. It is somewhat ironic that now we have the Word of God so freely. We can read it, study it, memorize it, buy as many copies as we want, etc. But yet with all this freedom, it is as if people are self-imposing a famine of the Word. Their life styles, pace of life, commitments, etc. are just some of the excuses for not being in the Word. Christians, who should value and cherish the Word, and non-Christians both seem to be in this famine. My heart is touched. Am I running to and fro seeking the Word or am I seeking the things of the World? Am I giving the Word the proper place in my life? Am I keeping the Word free from human excuses? Do I know enough of the Word that I can obey and grow as I should?

    Lord,
Deliver me from any kind of famine of Your Word. Draw me into the riches of Your Word and Your grace. Teach me, guide me, and help me to grow. Make me obedient so that I may glorify You in all that I do.
    Through the living Word,
    Amen.
